Tuesday I met member Peregrinans and brought home a few stoves he was rehoming, two of which were a pair of Los Angeles, California manufactured Stesco coil burners. One of these he posted about 3 years ago here Self-Extinguishing Stesco? I took the one in the above post, did a freezer dunk test and found that the lead disc in the cap needed to be worn to seal fully, I cheated and inserted an o-ring into the cap. After a 2nd dunk to retest passed, I fueled it up and it runs beautifully. The second he had warned leaked fuel from the fount the only time he tried it. Sure enough the dunk test found a 1/4" stress crack along the rolled bottom lip and the curve of the lower fount side. As these are a low operating pressure and not pumped to 25 or more psi I have no concerns soldering it up, so a few minutes with a propane torch, solder and flux, and it passed the dunk with flying colors. This one has seen some use and actually runs a bit better than the almost new one does.
