Just reading the news and came across this story.

Disposable propane canisters like the dark green ones used with camping stoves will soon be phased out in California, after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation Sunday requiring all one-pound cylinders sold in the state to be reusable or refillable starting in 2028.

    Hmmmmm......

The flame king refillable one works upside down on my torch, which the single use ones don't do. That makes it worthwhile already.

Plenty of time to stock up on what you might be using or get 5-6 pounder bulk tank. BTW the burgers were tasty.

Hmmm. Well not too concerned about it as I have seen the replacements in Yosemite of all places. They had a rule there that said the shops in the park would only be selling the refillable type. The ones they were selling had a light green tone (vs dark green) and were the same size, shape, and connector. They even cost the same or about 5 cents more (remembering that I was not offended haha)
They were not meant to be used, and returned to a store and exchanged for a full one for the cheaper price of just the fuel.

Seems to be a good idea on paper but I bet nine out of ten of them will be tossed in the trash anyway. Not big green bottle propane user so I have never bothered getting a refill adaptor myself. Unless they provide a super easy & cheap exchange program don't see folks get 20-pound bottle and refilling themselves.

@Daryl yeah...the last time I used the small tank was for a camping rectangular propane bbq in camp a long time ago. I grill over charcoal now and only use propane at home for a bbq thats for burgers on the quick

Sports basement has an exchange program for those. You pay $20 to get a cylinder, and then, if you don't lose the lid, you can exchange it for free.

Technically. There's two ways they get you though: if you go to sports basement you might see something else that's interesting and buy something while getting your "free" propane. Also, losing the lid isn't too difficult, though it is larger than a typical propane tank cap. 17277253019413798909828321767254.jpg
