I have wanted one of these since I joined this forum. Someone else was showing photos of one, and I had to have it. It has eluded me many times, some times I think I won the auction to find that I was outbid in the last few seconds. I have bid on these over the years from rust buckets to pristine stoves and always the same…a unicorn stove for me. Then some rays of hope in a way haha…this time all the way from Italy of all places. @Nicola Francesco Elia came to the rescue with a Campus 5! Very much appreciated...I have been tinkering with it non stop haha. I think this is now one of my most interesting stoves. Interesting from an engineering perspective to see how things were worked out and how something like this may have evolved to a optimus 11 to 111. Some familiar parts in the right places, burner bell that does not come off, wick made from thin steel wires...packing nut that has a secondary locking outer nut. Interesting to say the least. Just wiped it off, not sure if I will repaint it or not, but very happy with it. Usually I post these things really fast but I have had this a whole day, cooking water...coffee...ramen...air....whatever needs to be hot haha. Its really a nice stove. Plan on taking it to yosemite with the wife (along with a few other stoves) to try out in the field. Photos incoming.... Thanks Nicola -
@Pharael all smiles here in Los Angeles. I'm going to probably leave it alone. I did some minor brass brush cleaning.... nothing harsh... I think any rust it may have is stabilized. I don't know enough about them to know if it's been repainted or not but I think I see two coats of black. I think it looks nice as it is but I've cleaned up stoves really nice in condition like this. I'm really happy it's clean and runs like a top. Loud as a roarer
@hikerduane thanks man. I actually looked at your posts a lot on these quite a few times. You had a lot of photos of the parts close up. Now the next step is to get the other two on my "unicorn" list...radius 43 and a primus 41. One down....
Nickel tank or brass, silent or roarer? 43, white gas or kero? 41, kero or denatured alcohol (341)? Duane
@hikerduane @Pharael either or. I don't mind a roarer...don't mind a silent one... Just want a complete one even if it doesn't work...I can fix it haha I'm guessing the kero be versions of them are the easiest. But it doesn't matter. I like them all
@The Warrior Congratulation with you campus 5. I look't at it wanted it, but let it go. Sometimes it had to be that way. It is one of two types, the other one with pump Skauvill
@Nicola Francesco Elia Very much appreciated. Making coffee with it as we speak hahaha. @Andrew Yeah I wanted one for a while too! @Skauvill Strange enough there was one with the pump (5B) but I didnt win it, this one didnt slip past me finally haha. You have an awesome collection though...very jealous.
@remus56 Thank you, but I still miss a lot of stoves. I guess it always be like that. Endless looking for the rare! Skauvill
