Coleman 381 "Handy Hot Plate"

    Here is my Coleman Model 381 "Handy Hot Plate" restoration project.
    This model is from the 1930's.
    The entire frame, burner assembly, and burner caps are cast.

    Welcome Dustin,

    Your Coleman looks to be in exceptional condition(even before your restoration)What did you do for the restoration? I love the old cast iron Coleman's nothing is more bullet proof or works as well with the degree of control you get from them. Your restoration came out beautifully! :thumbup:

    When I got the stove, one of the grates was broken.. I had to get it welded back together. The generator tube was completely plugged where the gas line feeds in from the side. The blockage was a rusted tangle of that wire mesh material. I completely stripped the unit and removed the rust from all surfaces and also removed all the paint. Lastly, I repainted it with a red/green combination and re-assembled.

    Hello Dustin welcome to CCS and what a fantastic first post.
    I can not rember seeing a Coleman handy hotplate before,but what a very nice range stove,and a beautifull restoration job you have done on it.
    It would be nice to see the various stages of theh restoration

    Hi Dustin looking at the before and after pics,i forgot to mention what a beautifull job you have done on the paint work.
    And a realy good choice with the colour scheme the green and red go brilliantly together
