Admin edit - topic split. Below in response to https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/penta-wrenches-are-available.30980/ Or you could buy one of these from (and support) our beloved 'Fettlebox' in a week or two
I support Ross, buying washers, pips from him. Gary has been very good to me, better than I deserve, so I'll spread my money. I like Gary's tool as you can exert direct pressure down if needed and I have one already. Duane
Sounds a good philosophy Duane Incidentally, the slight delay is Ross wants to check that the key fits the new 'Katadyn' cap, which he thinks may well be a slightly different size ( if so, may well involve a second Tier of drive ) , so a sort of 'Two in one' key, fitting both old and new . When he's happy either way, they'll be made. Cheers
Some of the 111Ts has this square hole in the SRV. A SRV tool should be able to handle both types. I have Garys penta wrench and it's a great tool. If Ross will start to sell these I'll order one. bjørn
Ok, how about a 'z' key ? The key you see above, with a bend on the other end (like a z shape ) with a square drive to fit that cap ? It's starting to look like a '3 in 1' tool now
Sounds like a good idea Ray! When they are available in whatever configuration I'll order one (or two). Best regards, Wim
Great idea manufacturing a penta-key for sale in the fettlebox! BD's are very nice but generally available in small batches for limited times.
I have checked 2 SRVs that have a square hole. Opening is 4,2 mm across the flats. Which Robertson size fits here ? I have found that Robertson screwdrivers come in size 0-4 and are tapered. thanks bjørn
Bjørn, I checked my 6 Robertson bits [R00 to R4] and they seem to be: R00: 1/16 in.+ or .05 in (~1.27mm AF) R0: 3/32 in.- or 0.0696–0.071 in (~1.77–1.80 mm AF) R1: 7/64 in.+ or 0.090–0.091 in (~2.29–2.31 mm AF) R2: 1/8 in.+ or 0.111–0.1126 in (~2.82–2.86 mm AF) R3: 9/64 in.+ or 0.1315–0.133 in (~3.34–3.38 mm AF) R4: 3/16 in.+ or 0.1895–0.191 in (~4.81–4.85 mm AF) but those are all approximations, since the Robertson units are tapered... The only square drive SRV I found around here was the one on my 199 Ranger - with roughly ⅛" or 3.2mm AF, and in that one my R2 were a loose, but probably usable, fit. (The R3 will not enter...) So it seems there were different size square drive holes? In the pentasided SRV holes my ~⅛" 5-point torx screw drive bit fits OK... And the slotted SRV seems a good enough match for my Nr 14 fork drive security bit...
Thanks Odd 4,2 mm was wrong. Measurement is same as you found 3,2 mm AF. Sorry for the typing error. I'll order a R 3 and remove some metal till it fits. Btw when checking my part box I found a SRV in which a 3 mm Allen wrench fitted perfectly. Can't remember where I got this one. How many different types of SRVs are there ? bjørn
There seems to be three different types of 'Penta' type caps, the older version, a later Optimus version, and the 'Katadyn' version. The last two versions are a totally different size 'Penta' drive to the earlier version (As a side note, Ross's 'Penta Key' will cater for all three sizes ). There is a square drive version and a 'Fork' version as mentioned above, so that's five to start with
Hopefully they'll be affordable. I can't check to see until the Fettlebox site comes back up on the 27th. Stan
"Sorry - we are closed until 27 11 November 2015" I am thinking the 27 was left from the last vacation and it is possibly the 11th.
Ross is away at the moment, but I'm sure he'll let you all know when there available, Should be cutting metal this week Cheers
Hi - these will be listed on the shop asap. Excuse the typo on the home page. Shop is closed until 11th. Partly to let me catch up with a few things. As Ray mentioned I've been away (again!). Another MTB DH race with Tom. 5 hours of driving & 5 hours in A&E yesterday & one battered lad fortunately with no broken bones to look after today.
