I have a few burner bells for my Primus 96 stoves, I only have a few trailer balls to tap the bells with, but that process isn’t the best. What do you use to get the bell back to original shape the best you can? Mostly getting the flared top portion back into alignment. Duane
I tend to work very slowly and carefully from inside with a lightish ball peen hammer- one with faces a good distance apart for better reach. Because the top of the burner bell gets annealed with every use it is very soft, and it is easy to stretch it and permanently deform it rather returning to the original shape. Slow and steady.
Thank you, will have to get a ball peen hammer, never had a use for one, late dad had one in his tools. Duane
If you do have a go it might be useful to consider the old panel beater's advice for dent removal- push the dent out from within in the opposite order to how the metal deformed. So start around the outside, and gradually work towards the centre. This gives a better chance of springing the metal back to its original position rather than stretching it (which results in too much metal for the original shape!).
Unlike other parts, the only source for more bells is another stove. I've parted out quite a few repaired stoves. Putting into use the better parts. Duane
