Greetings, Fellow Stovies and Stovettes, Not too long ago, I very good friend sent a package my way. Here is what it contained! This #41 has all it's bits, and is in fairly nice condition. I'd never fired it up until yesterday, when I took these photos. Needs a little work, but probably not much! In addition to an assortment of other cleaning pins, this stove came with a never-used packet of proper Hovik Verk cleaning pins, too! And, it's proper spirit priming tin. Some shots of the stove, itself: Nice to have the correct HV burner, too. The pump rod knob, is also the reserve tank seal cap. Nice touch! Let's add some Meths to the spirit cup, and prime this #41, shall we?! The burner is dirty, and needs a good cleaning. Might need a new jet, too. I think I have some 00 jets that should fit this stove, too. I'll check that out. For being dirty, and with absolutely no fettling, I am very happy with how this stove works! Now, I'll remove and disassemble the burner, check the jet, replace all the gaskets, seals and NRV pip, clean up the works, and see if things improve a bit!! But, before we move on, there was something else in the box that contained this stove!! Hummmmm.....?? HOLY MOLY! It's a "Two-Fer"!! Included in the box was another #41, in brass!! Needs it's legs, and some minor fettling, I'm guessing, but, I'm over the moon to have received TWO Hovik Verk #41's!! Here's the brass version: Once again, this #41 has it's proper burner! Very cool! And, again, the pump knob, tank seal cap is also in place! I forgot to add some additional tank markings for both stoves: So, there you have it, Folks! One box, two stoves, and happiness all around!! I look forward to working on both of those neat Norwegian stoves, and getting them running as they should! Thanks for wading through all the photos. Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
Howdy, @The Warrior , Thanks, very much! Actually, that box was part of a trade with my friend. He was very generous to toss in some great extras, though, and I'm grateful for that. Thanks, again, and God Bless! Doc
The plain brass Høvik No 41 are very common here in Norway, the plated ones are far more rear. Especially in good condition. I have had four of these stoves, also one with the "UFO" silent burner, Radius style. They are excellent stoves, really good quality. I have never owned an Optimus 00, but from pictures they seem quite similar, if not identical, to the Høvik No41, could the Høvik be a copy of the 00, more or less? The Høvik has got a female burner attachment, the 00 I think has got a male connection for the burner? Regards Tron
Morning, All, Thanks, @presscall , John, @Tony Press , Tony, and @Tron , Tron! I appreciate your kind words. I've never seen the 41's for sale here in the States, and so when the offer came up for a trade, I was all in!! These stoves appear to be very well made, and I'm sure that, once I actually fettle them, they should run a treat! Tron, I like your idea of making one of these stoves into a silent model, by using the Radius "UFO" burner cap, and burner! Since I have one of those, that might be a good of fun! In any case, I am glad to have these two 41's in my collection, and look forward to using them on a hike, or backpacking trip, in the future! Thanks, again, guys, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
They came with the silent burner as an option from the factory, I bought mine complete with the silent burner, it even had Høvik verk stamped on the burner hat. Regards Tron
@Lighthouse , Thank you, very much! Here's another shot of the spirit priming tin, showing the opposite side. Sorry about the bit of dust on the brass cap. I should have pair more attention to that! Thanks, again, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Doc
@Doc Mark, I wonder how old the brass model is, as my brassie has the reserve/pump knob like yours. I have the 210 in nickel, it has the meths dispenser. Duane
Hey, Duane (@hikerduane ), I am not certain about the age of these stoves. I see there is a catalog from 1939, and one from 1950, but have not seen a comparison the earlier year, with the later time, Hopefully, some of our Norwegian friends here at CCS can shine some light on dating these wonderful Hovik Verk stoves for us. (@aktopp , @dsk ) Congrats on getting two of the Hovik stoves, yourself! Take care, and God Bless! Every Good Wish, Mark (Ye Olde Doc)
@hikerduane Not sure, but the picture in this post does have the 41/42 stoves in it. Dated to 1920/30s
