    Kerophile,

you not only made a superb seT, you also suggested for she a fine name, You spoke about Russian doll, isn't it?
Ok, your stove name should then be MATRYOSHKA.
    Will you agree?

Hi @Longilily , you would certianly need stainless steel balls to "borrow" those canisters!

    Best Regards,
    George.

    Really nice kit. Very creative.

    As to dating the Svea....
May I be so bold. It is an Optimus 123 with rings makes it a late 123, 1972/3/4 but earlier than the 123R.

Well, @kerophile, you've excelled yourself one again.

I, too, consider that the 'Russian doll' approach has a lot going for it.

    Cheers

Hi, Today I made up a neater heat-shield for the case/windshield.

    P1090807.jpg P1090809.jpg

The "new" heat shield is shown alongside the prototype. The new model was crafted from a one litre paint-tin lid which is the correct diameter, and very stiff due to the concentric folds around its edge. I cut the 50mm diam, central hole with a jewellers fret-saw. This new heat shield locates very positively on the three support nuts in the case.

I then ran the stove, outdoors on a windy day, and tried various size cooking vessels to see which was most suitable.

    P1090794.jpg P1090795.jpg
The kettle is probably too wide for the my narrow diameter case, and although I still had a powerful blue flame, it would likely benefit from a higher trivet position to allow the case to "breathe" easier.

Although the stove was operating in the outdoor shots shown earlier the flame pattern is not really visible, Here is what it looks like in a dark garage.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Great work. I do similar stuff with my Trangias from Ikea parts. You can do a whole cook kit from there... I'll post a thread if I can find the pics..

    George,

The little Sigg aluminum Svea 123 container, (few and far between) when used in conjunction with an old Sigg Tourist cookset, gives you a convenient place to carry a dirty stove in your backpack, other than inside your Sigg Tourist Cookset.

I lent my first Sigg Tourist to my climbing buddy, who set up the windscreen wrong, with inadequate venting, and blew the safety valve in the 123, destroying the cookset. He thought it was a real lark. Hilarious. I see lots of old Primus 71 containers with big burnt places. I'd be really careful about a confining environment such as a close fitting wind screen. Especially in your boat.

Hi Al @algentry1 You offer sound advice. I am safety conscious and would never use this stove in my small boat.
    Best Regards,
    George.

I like this model as well, I have four and IMO put's out more heat and the control can be fine tuned..
I have a Primus 71 always sort of cringe when it's at full blast with a pot on top.. But never failed (YET)!![-X
