I have made a number of repairs to stoves but never painted one. Want some advise on how to do it right. I see no practical way to separate the can/case so I assume the unit is painted in one piece. I have found a good match for the light green paint. I do not have spray equipment so I either go with a rattle can or get a pro to paint it. All the automotive paints recommend covering the paint with clear coat. I am painting a stove not a Chevy. Do not want it looking better than new. Should I clear coat or not. Any pointers will be appreciated. Do I sand, prime and paint or chemically strip? My old lungs do not handle chemical vapors very well anymore. Any advise will be appreciated.

Electrolyse is the best way to go and I like to use hi-temperature clear coat to protect my paint job.

Dupli-color high gloss clear engine paint is available at most auto-parts stores and is a fuel resistant coat for your stove. Most rattle can paints don't do well when you spill fuel on them. $7.95 or so for a can and it will do two or three stoves.

I use high temp engine paint and I bake it on low/moderate heat about an hour in a small toaster oven.
