I wished and I wished for a bernie dawg mini cap but alas none there came even the qs ripoff copy is beyond my means so I bought one of the Korean silent burners and find it better suits my requirements and for 40 quid including postage it seems excellent value here it is on my one and only very tatty 8r hopefully getting some new paint soon in the centre of the burner is an adjustable doo-dah - I have not sussed that out yet next up Russian clone
same again next up svea123r jetboil mash up - hopefully the missing element that will make it a user stove
and on the 123r - the stove it is made for gorgeous finally the svea jetboil mash up is complete the flames are nicely centred in the heat exchanger on the sumo pot tomorrow the cosy goes back on the pot - scorching should be a thing of the past and this is the Korean cap nifty row of holes around the edge to heat the burner bell
I had one on my Omnilite Ti. I liked it better than the regular style where the holes are facing the side what I found out though was it could not simmer well. Another on my military XGK worked great? I like the straight flames.
@Rickybob , I suspect that it's a removable doo-dah for serviceing the stove burner. On occasion, the silent insert will stick in the burner due to heat and expansion, making it all but permanent. Removing the doo-dah lets you insert a wrench to remove the jet for cleaning or replacement. Murph
I can report that after a single firing in the 8r burner bell the cap was jammed in so tight I had to drive it out with a drift struck with a piece of wood I had planned to use lock wire to stop it falling out of the svea bell but that seems very unlikely now - it's like one piece! so far I have found that I can throttle back a bit - but not what I would call a simmer - however the flame output is very close to that of the jetboil burner and it is perfect for this application I will try some outdoor burns over the next few days and have a tinker with the doo-dah and see what transpires
@Rickybob Yes keep us updated. Mine got stuck aswell. I ended up just firing up the stove then shut it off and right away flipped the stove on its side and the cap fell right out onto my table. Beware! Thecap will burn/melt anything it touches!!
@Rickybob why were you unable to get one from Bernie Dawg? Is he no longer making them with his 3D printer in Europe? I have one of his printed versions and it works very well on the 8R and the 123 and 123R.
I looked at his website - but it was too expensive I now think the Korean cap is better suited to this application with the holes being in the top I have a 3d Bernie dawg cap for my xgk - I put it in a dragonfly - very pleased with it
"Doo-dah" is what you sing in Camptown Races when you can't come up with real words. Now doo-doo is something else entirely. Tom
We cannot get these in the States, and this item interests me more than the cast (or printed) iron caps do. After a fair bit of searching, I found that it is an Amazon.uk item. Having successfully ordered from Amazon.uk in the past I attempted to order it. I was advised that it can not be shipped to my address. That seems odd as it comes from Korea and I should think the vendor willing to ship anywhere. I can't think of a regulatory reason for this as it is simply a mass that diffuses and redirects the flame, muffling the sound of the roarer burner. The roarer burner is music to my ears as well, but at 5 am when making coffee while breaking camp the thing can be heard all through the campground. Consideration for fellow campers (who partied into the wee hours) and all that...
seems strange - I got this one on ebay uk the sellers id is kkn4602 - it took about two weeks to show up the listing states free postage to the us in 11 to 32 working days the price quoted is $49.95
