    Yes, you are correct.
    That is a typical modern generator for cave explorers. Usually carried in your belt, but a pocket work too when you need some warmth.
    They use carbide lamps with a flexible hose up to the lamp/burner.

    @Christer Carlsson - if You find photo of "similar" type - will be nice to see lamp module design...

    I have just seen several of them throug all my years of collecting carbide lamps.

    But a quick search gave this a bit down on this page. You can see the hose attached to the outlet stud:

    Finally got myself the No7 army stove box, 2 of them in their cardboard boxes. A bit rust but not much, 1978, so now I just need to put a stove in them!

    A great idea to have a tap at the bottom so the lemonade does not go flat if it was carbonated.

    This needs a second picture in flame shots. I think the only way to do a close up would be with a zoom lens.
