My master bought a little farm nearby, and examining the little house I found an old stove lying in the attic! Had to climb up to a window in the attic and climb in to the very(!) little room up there, but I got it! And for free!

It's a Høvik Verk Standard. More than that I don't know! Could anybody tell me what number it is? It's marked an H under the stove, if thats any help :content:

Just a little dirt here, a little cleaning and it was all nice and shiny!

The burner have seen better days, and the flamering is nowhere near good condition, but everything else is in good condition!

    A No. 31, Great! :D

I'll try to make a flame ring sometime in the near future, using yonadav's improvised flame ring as an inspiration!

Hi Stoveuser Jr. Very good photos!
Making a flame ring should be good fun.
Commercially made flame rings of the correct size should still be available. From the flame-ring gallery on the burner you should be able to estimate the size of ring used on your No.31, and tell us.

Thank you, a wood carver eh? I can only make crooked cuts when cutting firewood, let alone make something with my hands that I would hope someone would buy.

    Yes, I'm carving wood :content:

I always have a knife ready to do some carving whenever I get the chance :content:

You should come visit Norway and take a course in wood carving! I have heard that Norwegian wood carving is pretty popular "over there"!

Stoveuser, Jr. what a great find! I envy your chosen craft as I am an amature woodcarver but I have never taken lessons. I have about 30 Swiss Made pfeil carving tools as I have found those to be the best available in the US for soft wood. Do they make good tools in Norway, too?

I use Pfeil tools as well! 8) The best tools nowadays without doubt. The old Taylor tools( pre 80s, with the big hazelnut logo) works great as well! Depends much on how u're sharpening them. It's a lot of ways to do just that, everyone has their own way. There are no manufacturers of carving tools in Norway sadly, but they sell both stubai, swiss made pfeil and taylor here.

I find that the pfeil tools works great both for hard wood (like oak and maple) and the softer woods (pine, linden-tree). Usually I carve in pine and beach as that is the tradition over here.

Good to hear that there are fellow carvers here as well! :content:

Stoveruser, jr., I have no Taylor tools but have about 12 Robert Sorby full size mallet tools. They work well on hardwoods like oak. However, the bevel is less than on the Pfeil and they do not cut as well on soft wood like linden. I really prefer relief carving but enjoy carving Santa's and Cowboys in the round, too. Perhaps you can post photos of some of your work?

Beautiful Work, Stoveuser Jr! I love Nordic / Viking carvings and have done many Celtic love spoons. I have done a few flat-plane carvings but I am not good at it. You have a real talent!
