I recently offered a seller a fair price for this and it was gladly accepted. It looks to be in great shape and (nearly?) complete. Here are the photos of what I believe to be the most important details of the kit. I am quite sure discussion will reveal much more than I know of this briefly made stove. There are 2 cutouts in the burner body. The pricker is "Made in Sweden". 2 o-rings. The flint storage location has a knurled cover rather than a screwdriver slot, as seen in other MSR stoves of this same era. There is NOT a fuel identifier on the jet. The 'cable' is used in the fuel line rather than a solid rod. The tag is from a Model 9 stove. I have a model G with the same tag. A metal fuel adjustment dial. Cotter pins are used with the pump assembly. The original (?) air inlet hose is still attached and not broken off. The pump cup leather looks (nearly) unused. The box has the options of a 'G' or 'GK' stove printed on its side. The instructions I received with this stove, located in the Library HERE, are dated JUNE 1976. More details of this stove are written there. And remember .... "Do not allow any immature person to use this stove." It is printed in several places with this kit. I look forward to more discussion of this stove. Ken in NC
Nice catch! At MSR did they fired up stoves before they were sent out to stores/shops on early days(=70's, 80's and (early?)90's)? Looks that it's only test fired. I also have one "older" XGK that looks almost unused but seems that it has just been tested.
Yes, when I was at the old MSR customer service counter, in the early 90's, before they were bought by Cascade Designs, the technicians there had a set up for test firing the stoves. It had a vent above to exhaust all the exhaust fumes. I understand there was another set up in the back and all stoves were test fired before leaving. I was recently there and the customer service counter is no longer open to the public. Ken in NC
Nice stove and great photos that are ideal for our Reference Gallery so that members can compare their MSR stove with yours. I would advise all members who show their stoves in the SRG to have plenty of photos in detail. As Ken has mentioned elsewhere, the making of a new thread and the importation and display of photos is now 'easy-peasy'!
One more detail .... "This stove has the circlip of the older stoves and not the compressed washer of the Model G." (Yet, as mentioned above it has the cable and not the solid rod)
I got a PM, from a member, and a post on another thread asking me to share more information about this stove. I shared all I know, and hope Doc can come on and share some of what he knows. I did not know the DF existed until quite recently. Ken in NC
It looks like a Duel Fuel. They must have begun that model with the cable in the fuel line and the hollowed out helix surge protector when the Multi Fuel model became a nuisance to keep clean, then improved the shape of the fuel line and changed the surge protector to sintered brass and called it the G/K later on. it would be interesting to see what style surge protector is under that jet.
Thanks Ken @snwcmpr, for ID ing one of my MF's as a DF as it has the cable. Also checked another stove and believe it to be a 9A since it has a rod. So keep forgetting I have all the early MSR stoves, per the SRG, models have some variations. Tough getting older and dealing with slight changes on stoves. Emailed a bay seller last night who said he had sold his DF by mistake when he was selling off his stoves and camping stuff. Duane
