Picked up a Veritas stove yesterday, no pot supports with it. Primus and Optimus 96 pot supports are too short by at least half a inch/13mm and Optimus 45 and other larger stoves have a larger diameter pot support. Only had two steel tent stakes I've found over the years that were the correct diameter, so will see if I can find the correct rod size next trip to town. I just used a vise and my hand to bend these, if I do more, will measure and mark where I need to make bends so they come out much better and same shape I hope. Using the vise, make the top bend first, then the lower bend, this seems to give the vise a good bite on the support so when you force the material for the second bend, it stays in place. So you don't need to make a jig. The top one came out pretty good, used my bench grinder to make a flat spot on the bottom end, unable to make the little jog these have. If you had material enough, you could make your bends and cut off excess on both ends if needed. My Saturday morning, quick project. I hate it when I cant finish something.

Nice work. Did you heat the rod before bending?

Duane, do you remember Master Fettler Bryan Miller's thread here?

Trevor, when I searched, that is one I looked at. This was easy, not very accurate though. I'll try some rod stock if I can find some in our small town and measure this time.

    Anneal before bending.

I like knowing what metal I am getting, the right diameter, and getting the length I want.

I've somewhat successfully used 5/32(~4mm) welding rods for legs. Not ideal but it worked.

I was eyeing some Optimus 111 pot supports I have, only have one in donor condition, but two nice ones I'm saving for something. Would have to do some more accurate measuring to see if I could get two supports from one.

Algebra II, I believe, is trigonometry

A squared plus B squared equals C squared in a right triangle.
