    Hello Everyone,

Upon arriving home from work today, I was greeted with a package in the mail on a new acquisition. I haven't had a chance to inspect it entirely but looking forward to doing so. Also, I want to learn more about the Opti 00, so I will be digging through CCS archives :content: . We are heading out on a camping trip over Thanksgiving weekend with another couple so I hope to have this stove up and working! Tip of the hat to Doc for providing a windscreen source for my stoves, which also came in the mail today! The stove has the typical Optimus + Primus on the burner head and a steel pump rod just to name a few characteristics. I think the burning paste is dried up :(

    Kind regards,

Looks like you got yourself a NICE Optimus 00 from REI! What a great find! It would be nice to find one, in the box, like yours!

    Thanks for sharing,

It appears to be from 1981 according to member BrassNippleKey who has displayed one in this sub-forum, as well. A stamp on my box top reads 07481. BNK's is 072081. So not sure, exactly. BNK also mentions maybe the quality is not quite up to the older )) stoves? I only have the one so cannot make a comparison.

Hi, that is great stove. It is very hard to find something like that with all the bits, paper work and box. I got a opt 99 at REI in Seattle in 76. Dave, what would the cost have been at that time? I would imagine pretty close.

    Hey Rick,

Here's an Optimus 99 from REI. I don't know which came first the 99 with the 8R shield or the built-in sheild, but it shows an REI price tag of $14.95 USD and what I believe is a date of March 2, 1973, time frame. Of course, I didn't buy this one for $14.95, but I did get it for only a tad more!

Thanks Sam. Ah the good old days huh, 14.95 wow. I believe that the built in shield was first and the the 8r shield came later. (but what shield has yours got?) Mine has the built in one. I might have that bass akwards though. Thanks for posting that. I wish I would have kept the box and instructions for mine.

It has the Optimus 8R type heat shield that is not built in. I think I prefer the built-in type since it won't slide around or come off, like the 8R type shield.

AWOL, your other 00 is the 'twin' you posted on later?
