Hello there fellow stovies, I was looking on the bay of evil and found a different version of silent cap. This cap comes from South Korea. So I thought I would give it a try so I bought a couple of them. This silent cap is adjustable via the slotted plug on top of the cap. I did try it out and had to do some adjusting to get the proper blue flame. As can be seen this silent cap works pretty darn good. Just thought someone might be interested. Cheers, Norman
@Tony Press Hi Tony, What's nice about this silent cap is it will fit many different types of stoves. If you get one or two just remember you will have to fiddle with it just a bit to get it to sit right in the burner bell. I'm very pleased with this new type of silent cap. Cheers, Norman
Norman, would you please give an idea of the price?? I haven't done much with my stoves for some time, but want to get back"with it". Gideon
So many people probably want the link you might need to repost in classifieds rather than send 200 pms thanks
Hi Norman, I've been looking at one of these for my MSR Dragonfly, will the new type one you have fit? How do they cope with simmering? Si
Hi Norman, I always appreciate your initiative. You are more aware than most of us re DIY various burner options available (& fuel delivery etc etc etc). Speaking of fuel, I see it's on one of the XGKs (multifuel) what fuel are you burning there? and what XGK is that? Of course I am asking Norman and it may be an XGK frankie Norman Special . I post to share with readers, your OP is re a NEW version. Ebay title: New version of Silent Cap Damper for Various Camping Backpacking Stove My "FYI" here is that there are 2 similar adjustable silent caps (both $49USD and same seller btw). This OP is not re the other similar adjustable silent cap also available, that one is not the "new" version (it has been on ebay for over a year I'd guess). Image below is that other one, Ebay title: Silent Damper for Optimus SVEA123R Camping Backpacking Stove thx again omc
Hi Si, The silent cap will fit the Dragonfly and there should be no problems with getting a very nice simmer. I have another Dragonfly project but just haven't gotten around to it yet, but this is the cap I'm going to use. This silent cap works well in many different stoves due to how it is designed. The OD of the cap directs flame onto the burner bell, so even at simmer the burner bell stays hot and conducts heat for vaporization of the fuel. There are only a few stoves I can think of that this cap won't work on and one for sure is the Coleman Denali stove due to its small burner bell and the other is the Primus Omnilite Ti stove for the same reason. I haven't tried it for fit in any other stoves yet. You can find it on eBay just search for this, New version of Silent Cap Damper for Various Camping Backpacking Stove. Or you can lookup the seller, kkn4602, who always has items to sell. I hope this helps. Cheers, Norman
@OMC Hi, The XGK stove you are referring to came with only the gas jet. I tried 4 different fuels, Coleman fuel, propane, isobutane, and straight butane. All of the fuels performed well. It is another Frankie special. http://www.classiccampstoves.com/threads/msr-x-gk-stove.33234/#post-339771 Cheers, Norman
@Big Si Hi Si, I decided to fire up my Dragonfly using the new cap and the results are very good. I did have to adjust the slotted flame adjuster in the center of the cap. Here is the stove and the flame shots. Notice the ring of fire on the OD of the silent cap it's what keeps the burner bell hot. Cheers, Norman
Can you post some flame shots with a pot on the stove? I'm curious as to how the flame behaves with something above it. Also, the listing says this weighs 60g. Can anyone weigh a Berniedawg Dragontamer for comparison?
@Hazet Hi, The Dragon Tamer is only just a little lighter 62.5g. Here are some pictures with a pot of water. The flame shoots straight up and spreads out a little. Cheers, Norman
there sure is a lot of reproduction stuff coming out of Korea, I won't get 1 for my Dragonfly, its LOUD and keeps the bears away Jan
I just ordered one to try with one of my XGK IIs. Just to have something around to tame the beast when people start to complain about the noise...
