This arrived today and I was very happy with it! It’s a lovely stove! A little larger than I was expecting and I think the tin is amazing. Sorry if this is a daft question but what is META fuel? Thanks for looking CD4990C1-AFE5-428A-9612-4247389AB238.jpeg F9C21D16-811B-46E7-A4C1-E6F4CA361A3F.jpeg 5E22BDFA-8DE4-4B47-B9F1-48AF5D594906.jpeg 373B8FA3-F259-4EAC-84C4-4BB402691893.jpeg 1400A492-8B1F-49F1-BAE0-B63CE4230FDF.jpeg CAA90C98-F9F6-4AEA-8410-CF98C8CD8F63.jpeg AE53BA47-AA21-415B-ABE9-FFDE6FFBF360.jpeg C9BD411D-7D0F-4D98-9758-9CA351589462.jpeg DFABF9CD-DE3C-4990-B206-3CB393B72F61.jpeg 1A468A29-3DA4-4F94-9486-459EBCC7C0B0.jpeg 02E8389A-EF21-4C75-AC01-83859C541594.jpeg 585745CC-82DB-4526-95E7-4AA042395758.jpeg

Hi, you now have an excellent and very comprehensive Optimus 1S stove outfit. It looks as if you have 2 x reserve caps, one loose and the other “Parked” on the end of the pump knob.

I believe that your stove likely dates from the 1930s:

    Optimus 1S, L from 1930s.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi thanks I will have to try it when I fire it up!
Kerophile thanks for the link. your stove looks very nice! I hope this one cleans up as well as yours! This stove is larger than the Primus 96’s I usually collect but it is definitely a keeper!
    thanks again
    Aaron

Meta fuel is extinct. But you can use hexamine [Esbit] for the same purpose. I have used hexamine tabs to prime a Svea 123. Advantages: It doesn't spill every where, and you can blow it out after getting the vaporizer up to temp. Disadvantages: smell, and sometimes hard to light.

    Hi @Aaron1980 ,
Congratulations to a really nice catch. To me, these traveling stoves with lion feet constitute the pinnacle of classic camp stove design. It's just great that the engineers did not only design functional feet, but went the extra mile to make them pieces of art. But then as some here know, I'm quite biased...

Thank you! I have started to polish it up (I don’t normally polish stoves) but somehow it seems like the right thing to do! It is at the minute my favourite stove!
