My wife gave me this stove earlier in the year for my birthday. It came with a can of Rustoleum Charleston Green. I should have painted it the day I got it, but, I 'got to thinking' and that spoiled everything. I thought I would need to take the case apart, but I shouldn't have. So, a few months later, I had to figure out how to get it back together.... Link The day I glass bead blasted, I painted it with white metal primer. I think it was 2 or 4 light coats. After a few days, I baked it in the oven at 250°F for an hour. After at least a few days, I put 3-4 light coats of this green on it. Twice I baked it. 300°F for an hour and 500°F for an hour. It has set for a few days. I will be gentle with it for the next month while the paint finishes it's curing. I had the heat shield plated nickle-chrome after I bead blasted it. It does show the pits, but to fix that, copper plating base layer, is way too much expense for me. 10.00 USD was a good price for plating. Here it is next to an original painted Optimus 8. Actually they look more similar than the photo suggests. I believe the texture of the cases belie the color. The valve key came later and is not period correct. Flame shots later. It does burn well. Wow, mad skils. I wish i had a fraction of your skills. I can just about barely season a cast iron skillet.
snwcmpr Nice work in deed! Question; Was Optimus 11 delivered orginally in other colors than medium dark red and medium dark green?
@Skauvill I did not get a notice of your reply. Add a "@" in front of a name and a tag will be created. I am not sure what colors were available. BD shared with me that his research showed this color to be as close as he knew to the original.
Snwcmpr Thanks! After a while I will learn to use this. I will continue looking for original color for Optimus 11 as well.
