I needed to remove NRV from Optimus 155. I have a long NRV tool sold for Optimus 155 but I thought that NRV is too tight for it so I opted to remove pump tube in order to reach NRV. Pump tube has threaded mount to fount/tank and it was too tight to unscrew by hands. Didn't wanted to deform nor dent the pump tube with pliers so needed to figure out some other method to unscrew the pump tube. Found piece of nylon which I drilled 19 mm through hole and made a cut to it with hacksaw: Pushed pump tube through the hole in nylon piece and mounted it into column drill's vice: Turned from the fount/tank and pump tube started to unscrew from the fount/tank. Unscrewed the pump tube and I got NRV removed with wrench. No marks nor damages in pump tube .
@presscall When I used 'the tool' I noticed that it works ok when fount/tank is removed from the stove's frame. That requires quite much work. 155 that I was working was already without burners so I only needed to remove quick lighters. 155 pump tube removal 'tool' would need some enhancements that it could be used in 'un-dismantled' 155. I think that one more cut with hacksaw is needed that halves of 'tool' can be mounted around pump tube inside of 155. Some screws to keep halves together and some kind of handle to turn the tool would complete 'the tool'...
Very good solution! Now that the tube is dismantled I would take the chance to braze an m20 nut to it for future utility
I have been trying to unscrew the pump tube from a 155 tank for months. Time, heat, penetrating oil, no luck. I even filled the pump tube up with home brew penetrating oil (pressure = depth x density x g) and left it for a few weeks. Then out of the blue I remembered I had a ‘non-slip mat’. I wrapped it once around the pump tube, put it in the vice jaws, gradually tightened them up, and: -R
