After the disappointment of the damage in transit, I have finally got around to starting on the restoration of the Optimus 172 I found last summer. Just stripping it down now. I’m interested to know how you would approach the restoration? Going to need a repair to the frame (I assume a bit of heat on the bent areas before reshaping?). Clean up of the brass (Vinegar bath?) Resolder the loose tank bracket. New seals of course. I have some nickel paste I planned to use for the trivets. Then I need to protect the frame once clean. (Would you leave it bare and oil it? Paint it? Powder coat? Other?). This is my first proper stove restoration, all advice most welcome! Thank you
No repair yet, that shot on the workbench is just a good angle. I wasn’t sure wether to weld or solder.
I’m also interested in the original colours these may have come in if I was to refinish it. From the reading I have done I have seen similar stoves in a mint green and a few in black.
