Some years ago an Optimus 199 multi fuel stove was advertised in the Netherlands. It was a very clean looking unit, albeit with some strange alterations made to it. A quick survey of known 199's on CCS surprisingly showed a similar stove published by Iani, back in 2011. So this oddball seemed to have a pedigree.... While initially I had regarded it as a neat private initiative upon receiving the stove I realised this was a high quality conversion which was well thought out. All modifications that Iani mentioned seemed identical to the mods made to this unit before me. Then, some time later, I got this (rare) moment of enlightenment: could it be the brainchild - and handiwork - of Anthony ('Ton) Roos (meaning and pronounciation as in 'rose')? Ton Roos is an instrument maker in Holland, and an avid outdoorsman, who has a respectable reputation in thinking out solutions to poor or even dismal designs of stoves and lamps by even respectable makers - like Optimus. Another 199 that turned up, a standard issue but in very poor condition, speeded things up as to come to any conclusions regarding these, by now two, enigmatic 199's...... I realise now this is perhaps in the wrong category and should be shifted to the Stove Forum?
A brilliant modification . I am insanely jealous that you have such a special one-off . Cheers Simon Foxxx New Zealand
