The Optimus 199 Ranger - Up Close and Personal

This is virgin, unused and unfired, and in the box. At the moment, it is one of the most sought after camp stoves, bringing in shocking prices on the auction block. Maybe the demand will die down in a while since there have been so many of these offered. So far, that has not been so.

This stove is complete and all original.

This one came all the way from Italy from a soldier in the US military by APO. Coincidentally, the person I received this from had lived in Idaho for a time as a youth some few miles from where I live now.

I give you the rest of the Optimus 199 Ranger:

Sam, very lovely indeed. I guess it will be kept unfired. The 199 dropped down the bottom of my list as the prices are indeed way up there.

    Thanks for sharing pics.

I remember that deal. A strange auction and story. Plenty of folks were suspicious on that one. Sounds like it went well though.

Were your hands shaking when you got the package form Italy? LOL!

Almost too bad it's unfired. Now you have to get another for a user. HA!

    Sweet stove Sam!

I know Optimus claims 75 minute burn time on the box. But the catalogs claim 21 minutes. I clocked one I sold a while back at 15 minutes. A rather short and silly burn time. Though this is why the remote fuel tank/bottle stoves became more popular.

    Cheers,
    Jeff

Yeah, 75 minutes would have to be mostly on simmer.

I'm not sure an 8R would last that long, even on simmer. LOL!

Sam, nice centerfold shots indeed. If I ever manage to obtain one of these it will be burried with me 12' underground as opposed to the standard 6' grasped tightly by my boney arthritic hands. I am currently building my own time machine so I can go back to when I was a stove virgin then buy a whole shipping container of these and retire when I believed I knew everything. :^o [-(
