Got the 8R in. A few photos.

Not in too bad of shape:

Took the cap off to fuel it up, and, as usual, check the gasket. See anything wrong here? :D

    What's left in the cap:

    Cleaned out:

    New seal:

    Priming:

    7.jpg
    Running rich:

    8.jpg
Shut it down completely, and turned the knob to clean the jet a few times. Started out good:

    9.jpg
But turned out a bit rich again. Better, but still rich:

    Any suggestions?

    Well done!

The orange looks more like crud burning off than rich running to me. Give it a bloody good gallop, boil a couple full pots of water w/ clean fresh fuel, and see what happens to the flame at that point.

If it doesn’t leave soot on your pots, it’s ok. (Soot you can wipe off with your finger; not scorch marks).

Marc, could be. I'm sure it hasn't been used in ages.

This one is exactly like my Primus 8R, except for the decal, and wheel saying Primus.

Thanks for the advice gang, appreciate it.

I also had to tighten up the thingamajiggy, you know, where the knob goes in. It had a flame when I first primed it.

I got some parts from Sweden a day ago, had that small spanner, marked Primus, will work on "one" of my 111 stoves. Tools, spanners hard to come by. Been working on getting Primus spanners for my model 96 stoves for years. Another due any day, about caught up.

I never even thought about looking to see if there is anything printed on the wrenches/spanners.

    Very nice.

    If I may humbly comment.
I would suggest getting some leather to wrap caps, and other stuff, when you use pliers to hold pieces. It will save the knurl from damage.

I do have a piece of leather just for that, but didn't give it a thought. When I post up my Optimus 45 fettle, you'll see that I do use one. Actually, I used it for something different.

The reason I didn't use it here, is because I very briefly used my lighter to heat up the old pieces, making it easier to get them out. Still would have been a good idea, although I wasn't putting the death grip on it.

8Rs are fun stoves! That’s a nice one.
