Apparently certain manufacturers fuel bottles are no longer available in the USA. Has anyone seen fuel bottles for either brand on store shelves in the US? Specifically, the .6L Primus or (M) Optimus 450mL or 550mL bottles.
REI carries the MSR bottles. I looked on Amazon, they have the Trangia, MSR, and some generic Chinese fuel bottles. They do have Primus and Optimus fuel bottles if you spell it out. But they are more expensive.
@SveaSizzler Primus and Optimus bottles are coming from Amazon Germany and Amazon Japan last time I looked hence the higher cost. I'm not sure the Trangia was designed to be pressurized or if the threads are compatible. For reasons I'll keep to myself I don't find MSR bottles to be an option, and I already have plenty of those. I'm specifically looking for a source in the US that does not necessarily advertise on the internet that locals would go to.
I don't know if the Trangia bottles have compatible threads either. The plastic tank for a pressure stove like an MSR sounds risky. If they are plastic, IDK. Sadly brick and mortar camping/climbing stores are endangered. Summit Hut -- a local Tucson firm I had been buying carabiners from since 1972 closed down its nearby store recently. There is an REI in town. The Co-op seems to be pushing gassies hard. Not much love, knowledge or interest in the classic GPAs. I have had some luck in thrift stores finding MSR bottles and vintage Sigg aluminum bottles for the price of a used aluminum water bottle. Store help has no clue. I now own two Whisperlites, but mostly the fuel bottle just holds extra Coleman gas for the Svea 123 or Optimus 99.
