I tend to just open the valve and let some of the alcohol flow into the dish below the burner once it’s about a quarter full I close the word valve and light it that way it preheat what’s the alcohol is almost burnt off you open the valve again and you have your flame you have to preheat either side depending on which one you want to use or both I have the single burner model and I love it it’s so dependable and reliable and quick and easy occasionally the brassBrush that is inside of the tube leading from the tank to the burner rests out because stupidly it’s got a steel core and can cause problems with the fuel flow and evaporation however it’s easily changeable by removing the nut on the back by the tank and pulling it out Hope this helps
