My Pigeon Ignus came without a genuine burner plate or silent burner so I wondered about pairing it with a Berne Dawg minicap (no legs version). My minicap has the legs and although the size is good, the legs cause a small gap between the cap and the burner bell, so a no go.
Any thoughts or has anyone tried a different burner arrangement?

    Robert,

I can dig out one of my Pigeon Ignus stoves, and see how an original, hand-made BD cap fits on it, if that would be of help to you.

@Doc Mark if you wouldn't mind that would be very helpful, assuming the new 3D printed ones are made to the same dimensions (I assume they would be).

    Hey, Robert, (@Robert Radcliffe )

Here are some photos that should tell the tale. I tried to use several exposures, because the photos were either too light, or too dark.

Note the difference in the holes on each cap. Interesting, no?

    IMG_5422.jpg

Note that the OEM silent cap, has a tube made into it, which works well in the recessed location of the burner. Gary's cap has that, too, but it is quite a but shorter than the original cap tube.

    IMG_5423.jpg

This stove is my "parts Ignus", as it's not complete. I was happy to get it, nonetheless, as parts are hard to find. Note that the area into which the silent cap fits, is recessed.

    IMG_5424.jpg

The OEM silent cap slides down into that recess.

    IMG_5425.jpg

Hard to see, but the handmade BD cap is a bit too large to fit into the recess.

    IMG_5426.jpg

Here, you can see that extra bit on the BD cap.

    IMG_5427.jpg

    Maybe this shows it better.

    IMG_5428.jpg

The measurements should tell the tale, of the photos do not.

    IMG_5429.jpg

    IMG_5430.jpg

The BD cap is a bit too large, though the stove "might" work with it balancing on top of the recessed area. You might want to look the measurements of the PuppyDawg cap, which fits one of my Baby Enders stoves. I can't get my hands on it, right now. But, if I can do so in the next day, or so, I'll check that for you. The BD/PD cap is only made as a cast offering, as Gary no longer makes his caps by hand. I hope this helps a bit. Talk soon, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Go straight to the source. E-mail Gary at bd@berniedawg.com and ask which cap (if any) will work best on your stove.

@Doc Mark thanks for that, I think my minicap has smaller dimensions I'll measure tomorrow. The legs certainly went into the recess but it still stood too far up.
    @z1ulike yes good idea Ben.

@z1ulike a very fast response from Gary and he's of the opinion the minicap would be best, he's even offered to do a test run as he has two of the stoves.

The end result of an exchange of emails with Gary. The minicap is underpowered but works with the PI. I've ordered one.

    Hi, Robert (@Robert Radcliffe),

Outstanding news! I'm glad that Gary came through for you, and that you have now set in motion getting one of his excellent Mimi caps. Please let us know how that works for you, when you have received and tested the cap with your Ignus! Well done, on Gary's part, too. Take care, and God Bless!

@Robert Radcliffe I knew Gary would help you out and judging by that video your Ingus will be running like a champ once your new cap arrives. Congratulations on a great acquisition.

Finally I've got around to taking pictures of the BernieDawg Minicap on my Ignus. Basically it is completely transformed into a far more usable stove. A great result.

If you're on Instagram I've posted video of the Ignus with the Minicap installed. I'm not sure if links work, if not I'm rar_knives_and_leatherwork on IG.

That thing is really running well. I might have to acquire a Pigeon Ingus myself. Good video too.

@z1ulike yes better than I'd actually hoped for. The video is after it had warmed up a bit and it was running at full tilt.

    Morning, Robert (@Robert Radcliffe),

Excellent results! So, the cap you ordered was from Shapeways? And, it was the regular Mini Cap? Looks like it's running very well, indeed!! I'm very glad you are now setup to use and enjoy your Pigeon Ignus!! Very clever little stoves, aren't they!?!! Thanks for sharing your photos of your new Ignus.BD cap combo in action. Running a treat! Take care, and God Bless!

    Every Good Wish,
    Doc

Hi Doc @Doc Mark being in the UK we order from i.materialise.com rather than shapeways. Yes I'm really pleased with the outcome, I imagine the Minicap may be as good or better than the original silent burner.

    Howdy, Robert, (@Robert Radcliffe),

Which Mini cap did you get? Legs, or no legs?

Definitely 'no legs' Doc, I tried my 'with legs' version and it stands proud of the seating leaving an air gap.

    Hey, Robert,

Many thanks! I've got a couple of the original, hand-made Mini caps, but would like to try the cast version, just for fun! Thanks, again, and God Bless!
