Has there been a in-depth consideration and ordering of the 71 cases? some have holes, some have slots, etc. There seems to be a lot of variation over the years.

    same link ^^^^ explains 1936, 37
Which is all re cases for the shorty P71 (1/3 pint).

credit Ian he just today posted shorty 10 hole side by side with standard 1/2 pint P71 case (also 10 hole, down low).

The standard 1/2 pint P71 came out in '38

The next P71 case ("slotted").. here is a '53 which may have been 1st year for that case.
Same as prev. except it has slotted holes at mid height (vs 10 hole, down low).

53 - 57/58 are the same, the name is A/B B A Hjorth & C0. one minor detail there are 1957 cases (same as 53-58) tghat have a '57 date code stamped into case.

I will leave 58-60 alone for now.
The last year of the "genuine Primus No. 71" was '62, which was last year of that "slotted" P71 tin, the name by then is AB BAHCO.
    hang on, more to come

Early in 63 came major change, the "Primus 71" & new tin were being produced by Optimus at their factory (by rebadging their Optimus 80).

Here is a scoop for you and FYI for Ross @Spiritburner

this is my '65 (I need to get it into the gallery)

I've confirmed this is Optimus's 1st version of the Primus 71. PRI*MUS No.71 stamped into the front of the tank and 1963, 64 & my 65 are identical.
Mine may be an early '65?, or late '65, I do not know.
I do know that some time in '66 is when the next version came out (took patience and a lot of looking to figure that tidbit out).
