Here we have a Primus 84, dated Y9. Unfortunately it did not come with a flame spreader, so I cobbled one out of a Baked Bean tin. Don't know whether it will work until I get some heat seals, courtesy of Keraphile.
Hi, Ian, You have a very nice Primus 84 from 1934! It seems to be in excellent condition. Losing their flame-ring seems to be an occupational hazard with these larger stove/furnaces. If I may offer a suggestion: Large Stores with Kitchen Depts (such as Tesco in the UK) often stock sets of stainless steel measuring "cups", with the capacity stamped into the bottom of each cup. Buy a set, select the size of cup you need for a flame-ring, and cut off the bottom, leaving a nice, shiny, heat-resistant part: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/9107 Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi George You are my hero ! I did go to Tescos yesterday, looking for small tins that would fit it. I'll get the wife to look for these things tomorrow. I'll be up at Cheltenham Racecourse Car Boot tomorrow 5.00am having a look, to see what I can find up there. You are lucky, as if I lived closer to you, I would be round your place looking for help ! Best wishes Ian
Hi George I did a car boot this morning, and what I did find were stainless steel cocktail shakers. I bought one, a pint and a half one, took it home, cut the bottom off, it works a treat. I went back up later and bought another three, I also bought a 3/4 pint one for 50p. Over the two I would prefer to use the smaller one, as it is useful for the Primus 84, and also the larger No 2 stoves. The cup to the shakers can also be used when cut down. Best wishes Ian
The 84 is now working courtesy of Keraphile. Thank you very much, could give you big hug. The cobbled flame ring from the cocktail shaker works well, until I get an original.
