    Gents,
Sorry for the newbie/stupid questions but I have been after an 8R for some time and finally was able to pick one up.
    My questions are:
1 - How do you properly date the manufacture year of the Primus 8r?
2 - Which came first the primus 8R or the Optimus 8R?
    3 - Was $50 a good or bad price for this 8R?

Q1. Answer. Primus Stoves of this vintage were not date coded so you have to rely on other clues.

Q2. Answer: Optimus No. 8 and 8R came before Primus 8R. The Primus model is simply a re-badged Op.8R.

“Finally in 1962 Primus stopped production of all paraffin and petrol stoves and AB Optimus acquired the rights to produce and market the stoves under the Primus trademark from Bahco.”
AB Primus, B.A. Hjorth & Co. (Bahco)

Q 3. Answer: Do you feel happy with your purchase?

The Primus No.8R was shown in a 1967 Primus catalogue.

In 1976 Optimus stopped making Svea (and Primus) branded stoves. The only exception was the Svea No.123 stove.

So your Pr. 8R was likely made between mid 1960s and mid 1970s.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

@kerophile has answered your questions as well as they can be answered…

I will add though that I’m west of you a few hours, and 8r’s do come up for sale here on Facebook Marketplace,,, and it seems like the prices are fixed at many hundreds of dollars, or $50… If I wanted one, and didn’t own one, I’d maybe pay $50 for a clean looking 8r… Comes down to what you want… Can hardly buy a sit down supper for two for under $50,,, and an 8r would be with a fella much longer than his supper…

So I finally got the stove in hand and have found the cleaning needle is broken and the jet is plugged with what I believe is the cleaning needle tip. Any recommendations on where to get replacement parts?
