You’re right about learning and remembering all the small details and the different companies own versions and types over the years.
And as a fantastic addition: FETTLING - buying and trading over time.

Re my "...I expect the burner and maybe a plate will emerge here"
:-$ shhh, I just want to add some details to tretrop's OP as an FYI.

After OP, sources for lipstick burners emerged:
    base-camp.co.uk (status: not in-stock)
FINN.NO (Norwegian online "classifieds") has a guy

and newest most interesting I'll cross reference to 2 hikerduane posts that followed, he highlights 2   current ebay items / sellers (Feb 2018) of No. 96 (new type) lipstick replacement burners, looking good !!!
status on both is sold out :(, those ads/images will expire:

    here From Fukushima Japan USD $63 + 8 S&H "vaporizer tube for ... 96"

    ---------------------------------------------

and here From Hillstate, Korea, South USD $30 + 0 S&H
"Primus #96 ... [changeable cannon nozzle]"

SO re this OP, Duane comes up big!! (and now info is here too).
    thx omc

@OMC, Thank you for the mention.
Been adding 96's to my collection. Some are missing the spanner. :(

That's straight forward solution for "no lipstick" problem. Easy to make and with replaceable jet.

    Is the jet 0.23mm?
