This is a Primus cast iron 4580 trivet for a No. 2 stove. It dates from before the mid-1960s when these trivets became marked “Sweden/Sweden/Sweden” rather than “Primus/Sweden/Primus”; and after the elaborate casting patterns present in early Primus cast iron trivets (see Part R580 in a 1925 catalogue, here). The 4580 trivet is shown in this 1962 catalogue: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1962-primus-catalogue.37488/ Note that it has been repaired by silbrazing, and that it also has small holes drilled in it for an unknown purpose. The position of the drilled holes suggests they may have been put there as part of the silbrazing repair process. Cheers Tony
Very clean looking in general. Nice find @Tony Press . I have a few old ones and a couple have one fracture and I have not been game to attempt repair. Nice work whoever did that.
Iain I’ve done a couple of OK silbrazing repairs to cast iron trivets, including to one that Jim Dick had that was broken into three pieces. But the best repair technique for cast iron trivets I’ve seen is one of the trivets in this thread where thin steel plates, each with two holes and two studs were used to bridge the breaks, then brazed, then filed or ground to shape: Optimus Cast Iron Trivet. I don’t repair cracks in cast iron trivets unless they look like breaking, but next time I need to do a good repair I’ll use that plate & stud technique. Cheers Tony
