    Hi!
Just want to add some pictures of my 303 just taken out of my "garage queue" awaiting fettling (no way near Johan's beautiful one).
The 303 have a very interesting pre-heating arrangement.

    Hello Stefan.
You lucky one, all the right things on the stove :D
I'm looking high and low for those parts and no one in sight

I'll bet you can make yours as fine as mine, probably better with the right parts.

    Just go ahead start fetteling.
    :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

P.s you dont have any pre-heating device over?

    Hi Johan!
No, unfortunately (and not surprisingly?) I don't have any 303 spares. Still, one can only keep looking.
And once again I can only admire your fettling. :D

While looking for some other patents I stumbled across the ones for this preheater. The first design was in Swedish patent 33082 from Dec 1910 and an improved design in patent 34321 from Sep 1911.

Basically it is so that you can preheat with kerosene or use less alcohol if you still preheat with that.

Yes - on the Monitor Regal No. 16. Trevor and I have examples...

They're also to be found on various Tilley lamps and lanterns, notably the BR49, BR49A and BR49B British Rail(ways) lanterns but also on some of the lifebuoy lamps and some of the earlier lanterns such as the PL54 and PL56...
