Hi, here are some photos of a Primus No.4 dating from 1926:

    Hi Kerophile,

    Nice Stove!

My No. 4 is stamped "O" making it 1925. Interesting that mine has the fixed burner ring and yours has the removable cap.

Would that mean that 1925/26 is the transition year to the removable cap?

    Cheers
    Colin

Hi Colin, That is a really interesting observation. For real stove addicts the big attraction of chronological series (same model from many years) is the guidance it gives to changes such as you mention.

Stove burners are of course interchangeable, but checking my records I see that I bought this particular stove in May 2005 fitted with this burner, although the inner silent cap was missing.

It seems 1926 could well have been the transition year for the silent burner change on the Primus No.4
If so 1926 was a busy year for Primus as that was also the year that they first introduced folding feet on the Primus No.210.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi Colin, I have just checked the burner on this No.4 stove and it does not have any date code. It is however clearly marked Primus (in a small oval).
Because of the particularly deep "skirt" it looks like a fairly early model.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.
