    Greetings,
Recently found in Canada through another Collector, this Primus No. 50, now resides in my Collection. Not quite complete, missing it's Pre-heat Cup and Stove Grate, but in great working order otherwise. Haven't fired it up, lacking the Pre-heat Cup, but I'm sure it'll roar back to life when it gets one, in the future! Can anyone date the old beauty? Do I have to remove the Brass Collar at the Bung, to reveal the Date Coding? Can anyone tell me what the "Clamp" was used for on it's Fount?

    Thanks and enjoy the pics!

Hi @Stovost, what a nice addition to your collection.
I believe you will need to remove the collar to reveal the date coding:

As I recall it is just a spring fit.

It should be relatively easy to source a replacement spirit cup and get this old veteran operating again. Send me a PT if you have any problems.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

No date code found. Does that date it?

The Primus No.50 stove was in production from the mid-1920s until the mid 1950s. All five of the examples of this stove which were originally shown in the the Reference Gallery exhibit date code markings under the brass collar, although these markings can be faint.

Are you reporting that your stove does not show any date code?
If so, your stove was likely made between 1925 and 1955.

    Best Regards,
    Kerophile.

Hi, about the date code of a Primus 50 stove, someone on the dutch market is offering a no 50 with the date code Y but, on the bottom of the tank.
Is not that very unusual for a number 50?

    Regards,

    Ton.

The Primus 50 on the Dutch market - is it a fixed leg stove or a collapsible stove?

The item has been removed from the market.
But I have two No 50's myself, and I an sure it was a No 50 in the advertisement, with fixed legs.
And it had the copper removable copper ring on top of the tank normally hiding the year of production.
But a No 50 with the production date Y, 1934 on the bottom of the the tank, is it seen before?

    Regards,

    Ton.

We have no fixed leg Primus 50 stoves in the Stove Reference Gallery, so do not know much about them.
It is certainly possible that the fixed leg No. 50 stoves had a date code on the bottom of the tank.
