Please excuse the photos as they were taken from the sales listings. I no longer have the stoves so have to rely on the photos that I have

PTC stands for the Primus Trading Company which Optimus set up in 1962 after they acquired the Primus brand name for liquid fuelled stoves

    CASES

When Optimus obtained the Primus brand I should think that they had some of the 8R cases left so initially the Optimus 8Rs would have been issued in the imprinted boxes. However the 8Rs were sold as being made by Optimus and Primus so the embossing was missed off the case and the cases were identified by a foil sticker which allowed the same box to be used for both brands. The finish on the last cases was slightly different to the earlier cases in that it had a slightly hammered finish rather than an eggshell metallic finish

    STOVES

Only 8Rs were produced in this period

    REGULATING WHEELS & KEYS

    Refer to stove photos above

Initially the stoves were produced with regulating wheels the same as 111s. At the end of the run they were produced with regulating keys the same as 123Rs. This change may have occurred when Optimus sold their factory in 1983.

    TANK LIDS

    1280142181-Slotted_lid_opt.jpg

The tank lid shown was in use up until some time in the 1970s.

After that there was a tank lid with a square hole in the pressure valve adjuster and diamond knurling.

Then there was a tank lid with a five sided hole in the pressure adjuster and vertical knurling. This lid was in use by 1980.

Many of these changes must have occurred earlier, at least for the models exported to the US. I bought my 8R in the early 70's (in Minneapolis), it came with the key rather than the wheel and the tank cap had the pentagon hole. There was no wrench/spanner clip of course, and the case did not have the burner clip at the back. The case was plain and had the foil "Optimus" sticker in the lower right corner.

    Hi Itchy

Some of the changes may have occurred earlier in different countries but I can only work from the information that I have which is what was available in the UK.

The stove with the 123R type regulating key came from the States in 2003.

I have been through my 8R photos and all of my other photos show wheel type regulators.

However my sequence of cases is wrong

This case should be between the embossed Optimus case and the plain case

    1280150417-8R_case_opt.jpg .

It was the case in use during at least the early part of the PTC (1962 to 1976)

The addition of either a Primus or an Optimus sticker made it suitable for both makes

The 123R key was in use on the 8R by 1976.

In 1972 it still had the 'wheel'
