Just finished fettling a Radius 17 and an Optimus 00. The Opt. 00 is likely from the mid-1960's. I have no clue about the age of the Radius. The Radius is a real powerhouse. I am impressed with the quality of the Radius. I felt very fortunate that the NRV valves in both stoves were not stuck. Here are some pics. Radius box (any ideas about age?) Radius Radius Fired Up! I haven't decided if I want to polish the stove or leave it as is. Optimus fettled Optimus running (still burning out carbon deposits)
Hi Steve, You have done some good fettling and your two classic stoves appear to be operating well. I reckon your Radius 17 probably dates from the 1950s-early 1960s but that is just an educated guess. I reckon the stove would look even better with some GSR treatment and a mild polish Well Done, Best Regards, Kerophile.
Hi Steve, I have posted some additional photos of the engraving on the tanks of my two Radius No.17 stoves featured in the CCS Reference Gallery. One stove is, I believe, considerably earlier than the other. Check out these photos and let me know how the markings on the tank of your Radius 17 stove compare. Hope this helps. Best Regards, Kerophile.
Thanks for the comments Kerophile. You have shamed me into cleaning up the Radius 17. I'll take a look at the markings and see how they compare.
Hi Steve,Your Radius 17 does look much better with a uniform shine! Just keep it clean now and it should build up a nice new, even, patina over the years. Looking at your tank markings it appears as if you have no "Shooting Star" logo at all, merely the reference to Radius Ltd. I therefore believe that this is one of their later stoves before manufacturing effectively stoppped in 1963. https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/14 Radius always made very high quality products, as good as, if not better than the other major Swedish Manufacturers, Look after your lovely stove. Best Regards, Kerophile.
