I have had an old Radius 21 for several years, and it has the blue and red tin for storage. A while ago my mother in law asked if I would like to have her fathers old camping stove, and it turned out to be a yellow tin marked with Radius 21 so I told her I would love to have it. When I opened the box I was surprised to see that the markings on the tank says Radius no 11. It looks to be almost the same as No 21, but slightly lower feet. I checked the catalogs here at CCS and found the explanation. In 1920 they sold the No:11 without a tinbox, and they sold No:21 with a tinbox, but the dimensions of the stoves seem to be the same in the catalog. So either the box was purchased separately, or there was a mixup of tanks at the factory, or they have replaced the tank/ stove at some time. But it is a nice little stove anyway.
Hello, nice find! We have only one reference about 11 in 1920 catalog: https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/1920-catalogue-no-10.15482/#post-155141 To me seems the same as 21 but sold without tin and accessories if not the only tool to dismantle the burner. Nicola
Thank you! I figured it out as well, and edited my initial thread while you were answering. But thank you very much for the help. There is a ton of knowledge you guys have here in this forum.
@oyvindbl WOW !! For a bored old stovie (me), this is new and exciting lol!! IF c 1920 when Radius offered the 1st 21... IF at same time they offered an 11 (your 11) IF (big IF) that leaves open the possibility your 11 is among the earliest of the 21s & 11s. Is it also the ONLY model 11 known to date? If yes, it's a banner day for Radius fans !! THANK YOU Yours has the earliest filler cap. Yours came with a (bonus?) No.21 tin? I can't explain that one. Your tin might be a match to very rare earliest tin also? (NOT just that it is yellow), closeup comparisons can be done here: Radius No. 21 - 1920s <-- *that is a complete earliest 21 . c 1920 (incl. pre-1920 possibility). all these ^^^ are big IFs but your 11 is looking very early/earliest to me at 1st glance. IF ^^^ that's the case you want to do comparisons to the 21 in the link as your 11 is likely earlier than your 21 (your 21 may be slightly later and not a 100% "exact" match. filler cap may be only difference, i dunno). I will say the 21 in the link has the earliest pump (knob) and that it is plausible c 1920 the 2 offering ("nearly" identical) but may have **differed per these line items: 21 ~ 11 compact pump (knob) ~ std pump spirit tin ~ no spirit tin windshield ~ no windshield tin ~ no tin (21 fits in tin. 11 all bits do not fit in tin eg trivet) no trivet ~ trivet compact / tourist ~ not as compact / domestic **there is usually a reason/purpose for a different model designation. speculation (more speculation): 11 is answer to domestic version in that size BUT they used the 21 (collapsible) model production line w/some tweaks vs adding another production line? VERY interesting example THANK YOU again for posting it!!! *source PS it will be helpful/useful to know what country you are from
I live in Norway. There is an old spirit tin in the box, and it is "clearly" printed Radius on it. There is a windshield (the kind with a hinged door). There is no trivet, but the picture of a NO.11 in the 1920 catalog is also without a trivet. The wrench have the radius logo on it. But strangely the burner head is marked Optimus on the top. Bottom of the tank is stamped "A.B RADIUS STOCHOLM MADE IN SWEDEN" and "Radius Made in Sweden on the filller cap. Will put in a post with the pictures (and a couple of picture of the newer 21 tank next to this to show the differences)
I have cleaned this old no11 a bit, and then I found a small B stamped in the bottom below the brand markings. Is this a date stamp or what is it?
