This is a "Sunflower" Vacuum Oil Company, No 2. It was made in Portugal by Cormache. It seems to be very well made of heavy brass and runs like a champ. Other than that I don't know anything about it. I can't find anything on the Cormache company. It seems similar in design to some of the Hippolito stoves also from Portugal but I don't know if there is really any connection. Hopefully the sizable knowledge base here at CCS can shed some light or at least some speculation.
At first glance, I thought it was a Hipolito No. 2 with those distinguishing feet. At any rate, it's a fine looking stove and if it was made by Hipolito, it's probably well made. sam
Hi Ben, what does the bottom of the stove look like; is it smooth, or is there a ridge/step an inch in from the outer rim? I have a stove made by Cormach of Portugal that has the same feet and profile as your stove. The fount is obviously stamped differently, not being a Sunflower; mine is also lacking the "E" at the end of Cormache, and any bottom stamping.
abman47, The bottom of the stove is just as you described it: By the way, are you an abalone diver? I was just up diving at Elk in Mendocino County and came home with 9 inchers. Yummm. Ben
Please excuse the necro post, but just curious if you/anyone found out anything more about Cormache? tia, Briar
