I'll admit to impatience, lack o proper research ( I keep getting sidetracked by other topics!) but this new Svea does have a bit of a "stutter" to it as it warms. Even blue flame, but I'm puzzled by the sound. It was nicely blackened all around the burner and other than a wipe, I haven't cleaned it yet. Prime flows readily and tank is nice and shiny inside. Fuel looks clean - smells alcohol/stove fuel (yes, I'm the new guy).
Also haven't figured yet diff between the 123 and the R and what/how/where is that s possible cleaning needle. Be I have looked at a few of the old instruction sheets, not all (yet), just haven't found the right parts. Speaking of parts, is the pot handle findable? Thanks, Russ

Have a look in the Reference Gallery and you will see the difference between the 123 and 123R.

The 123 does not have a cleaning needle:

The 123R does have a cleaning needle:

    SVEA 123R Disassembly

    Both stoves use Coleman fuel.

Pot handle is makeable (out of aluminium) or buyable on eBay (sometimes) or from The Base Camp (UK).

Take your time to look around here. You’ll find out a lot.

    Cheers

    Tony

Thank you - I appreciate the definitive nomenclature (wow, when was the last time you used that word in a sentence!).
I started reading the info here then catch a pic of some other cool looking item and off I go down some other path... What fun!!
I did find a patch of adhesive "goo", @1" x 3" on lower face of the tank. No remnants of color or logo - was that an original labeling detail?

Hi Rusty. The handles are easily found on ebay for around five bucks.

A flutter or pulsing sound is normal, and especially noticeable as it heats up.

The soot on the burner bell is probably from priming with stove fuel and there is no problem with that, other than the smudged fingers. If you care enough, you can avoid that by priming with denatured alcohol.

IMO, the cup handles are missing for a good reason -- but the stove is great. Save your money and spend it on a good cook kit :content:.

Ha, it's a worry when you drop down a rabbit hole, and see three more worth owning.
And lanterns, they can be a problem also.
