I don't know the vintage of this Trangia but I'm guessing at 1960's or even 1950's. The quality of the aluminium is excellent. Unlike the current models the burner sits in the upper windshield. The pan support hooks are also a different design. The early logo for Trangia Aluminium aka J.E. Jonsson & Co. The kettle The brass used for the burner is very thin gauge & this one has split. There is no screw top & the simmer ring is not removable The pan-grip Check this post for pics of a similar vintage 25 with original box. I wonder if the design patents for this models are different to those for the later & current models. I have seen some cheap nasty knock-offs that have been similar in appearance to this early model. I wonder is the early patent has maybe expired or is not being enforced?
Now I know what to look for. Nice one Ross, you were right about the kettle and the burner has really changed over the years.
That's a nice piece of kit ! Interesting that the kettle has just a bare wire handle, whereas later ones had some form of insulation . . .or has it just disappeared with time ?
I think it disappeared over time as i have one on the way with the wire coating intact, the Trangia looks identical in the photos I have of it so I'm hoping that it is the same as this one. Did they originally come with a canvas strap or the leather one?
Thats a later one again - but still early, if you know what I mean! The logo on the strap loop is the same as my moderm 1978 version as is the burner. I've seen a few older kettles without the rubber & mine looks hardly used enough to have lost it so I suspect the early one's didn't have insulation.
hi Ross the burner on this one is different to any of my other burners it's marked T.A.B on the bottom and has 2 separate rows of jets one around the top of the rim the other lower on the side of the rim i think the plastic lid must be original as it's a perfect fit and as far as i can tell the burner has never been used i'll post some pukka pics of the stove later
