Until now I've not been faced with the collector's dilemma of getting my hands on an unfired stove, new in box, unsure whether to keep it in pristine condition or use it.

Still not much of a dilemma for me with this stove, because this one isn't much of a classic. Nevertheless it looks well in its garish and pretty much unmarked orange paint

You'll notice an unpierced gas cartridge with the stove. Goes here. Standard Campingaz technology and indeed a Campingaz cart fits

Well, did I fire it? Will I in future?

No, not a lot of point really, since I have a well-worn Veritas 'Clansman' with a different pierceable cartridge, but the same burner, so can anticipate what the burner characteristics are.

Here are the two side-by-side and with their respective gas cartridges (and a Campingaz one thrown in the pic for good measure)

The Clansman fired up. I refill the cartridge when I need to from a cheapo donor cart, using an adaptor

Hi John even though a gassy and not exactly a classic but a very nice example every thing in this outfit is in pristine conditon and never been used and even though it was made to be used i would keep this outfit as it is in its unfired condition and just for show as i dont think one of these in that condition will come up in a hurry. And also i dont think the original canisters are manufactured i would imagine in the future this stove could be highly sought after in such a condition

that's a purty stove, there, pardner!

thanks for the pics - your shots are *always* great!

i have room in my stovie world for portable gas stoves, such as the Crux and Crux lite..

btw, Optimus now has a 'puke green' heat-exchanger cookset for US$29!

    Hi John,

Well, you're not going to miss that one and trip over it by accident!

Not what I'd call a good hangover stove unless it comes complete with a pair of shades as part of the toolkit

    Nice example.

    Cheers, Graham.

That's a very nice case it comes with, John. Excellent photos and text.

Not that the world revolves around my opinion, but this one might be worth keeping unfired. I imagine that the number of these that are unfired and in such fine condition is low. I mean, at the time these were being made, who would buy an inexpensive gas stove for the purpose of preservation?
