Lighter fuel is AFAIK mostly naptha here too.

I didn't know methanol produced formaldehyde are methyl alcohol and methanol the same?

I believe Hexamine and Trioxane tablets produce formaldehyde as well as small amounts of cyanide!

Don't most hydrocarbons produce toxic chemicals when burned?

I wonder what the risks are for stove users?

Maybe you could ask the missus and then we could make better informed decisions.
