Another Optimus dating question

Hi
I am astounded at the detail in Peter's answers to Stuart's Optimus 5S dating question on the other thread. Perhaps Peter or someone can help date mine.

I picked up an unused Optimus 22 in new condition, unlit and still in original packaging with outer sleeve over the cardboard box. The sleeve looks 1960's.The metal box is light blue and there is an Optimus foil label on bottom right of the lid (no embossing on the lid)

The sealing tape on the cardboard box has the Primus reg trade mark logo and OPTIMUS in blue capitals underlined in blue with international in white on the underline. Also AB Optimus Ltd, C.E.G.B. Dept, Kempston Hardwick, Bedfordshire, Tel 0234 740821.

I have scanned the Instructions, box, sleeve and part of the lid of the stove, however the images are massive and I'm trying to find out how to reduce them.

I'll be delighted to answer any questions about the stove if it helps to date it. Any other information or comments about the 22 greatly appreciated

Jim

Optimus 22 - Mike the Stove?

If there is Primus trade marks on the packing it has to be post 1962. Interesting the packing bears the names Primus & Optimus. Even though Optimus had both brands from 62 they kept their own identities. The latest references I have for the 22 is a 1972 Optimus catalogue & a 1971 Primus Trading catalogue. No embossing & a foil label puts this at the later end of the production.
From his trade dealings Mike the Stove may be able to tie it down firther from the Optimus UK address.

The 22 is an excellent stove. The 22 was paraffin or white gas - the 22B any petrol. They are also highly valued by collectors.

Optimus 22 - Thanks

Hi Ross
Thank you for your interesting reply. I have contacted Mike the Stove about my Optimus 8 question here:http://www.network54.com/Hide/Forum/thread?forumid=81021&messageid=1065736903 and he is most helpful so I'll try him on the 22 also.

If you would like any of the scans I have taken of the 22 and packing/instructions I'd be pleased to send them to you - I just have to figure out how to make them smaller.

Could you have a look at my other question on the link above and perhaps help me to idenyify the parts.

Thanks again
Jim

Optimus Ltd, Bedford

You are pretty close on this one Ross.
Optimus Ltd., Camping Equipment Great Britain Dept. was based at Kempston, Bedford from 1970 - 1978. The Promotions Dept which handled advertising, catalogues etc. was at Sharnsbrook, Bedford at the same time.
There does not appear to be references to the #22 after 1972, though stock could have laid unsold on shelves for some time after this date.
Although a popular stove amongst users, sales of this model were in decline by this time. The special 'left-hand' burner used just on this stove meant the end of the line had come.
