Coleman Stove Paint (502, 501)

Hello,
I am looking to refurbish two Coleman stoves. Both of them are pretty beat up in the paint area so removing and re-painting will prove no great loss. Does anyone know what the name of the color is for these stoves? I am thinking of just going taking one to the hardware store and see if I can match up the color with a can of spray paint that is available.

Also, how about applying chrome to the burner bowls? Has anyone had any expiernce with that? Any ideas and tips will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

Spray paint

Well I haven't done the tank portion, but have had good success repainting the grill/burner area of my 500.

I used a 1200 degree paint, then baked it 500 degrees for about 1.5 hrs. The finish is nice and seems fairly durable.

But do this when you expect the better half to be out for quite some time.....the stink from the baking paint was terrible!!!!

This what my restored 500 looks like.

Baking

Hello,
Did you allow the paint to cure or did you paint let dry and bake? I painted a tank before and allowed it to dry between applying coats of paint. I wonder if I woould get a better finish if I baked the finish on the tank?

Bake it

I did one coat, let sit 10-15 min then the second coat. Let it sit for another 10 min and into the oven.

And really, open those windows.......

....stinky.

Bake it - Love it

Thanx Chuck.

I have been impressed by how well the paint has held up. The soot just wipes off.

That picture is of a used stove not a wall flower. If I'm making the effort to clean it, I'm going to make sure it works too!
