my taykit is posessed!!!

I just gave my taykit coilburner a run, and it seemed really starange.

At first, it was a small candle flame, then suddenly WOOSH there was a huge blue flame that blew the match out my hand (seriously!).

Then it went back to candle again, and that WOOSH again. This happened a few times, untill finally it stabilised with a blue flame.

is this normal, or does my taykit need exorcism?

Loose cap / clogged wick

April 11 2004, 5:38 PM

Adi,
Make sure you have the cap on tight. The stove should burn with a yellow flame then as the coil heats up the flame will burn blue with a bit of a roar. It sounds like the wick is clogged. Almost like the stove burns the fuel in the wick then slows down for the wick to absorb more and burns bright again. Try some carb cleaner and see what happens.

Didn't pay attention the first time (my fault)

Adi,
Sorry about that. I missed your last line that said it burned strong at the end. As the TayKit heats up it takes a bit for the fuel in the wick to stabilize. Once the tank pressurizes and a steady flow is being sent to the wick it will take off running.

So do you like it? It is kind of a gas on stove that is good for boiling up small amounts of wate quick.

Great stove!!!

This taykit is great. Although it's having some spiritual problems (posessed) otherwise it's the greatest small stove i'v ever owned.
I never thought i'd say this, but it beats the hell out of the 96 for smallness and portability. It has power too!!!

The only other stoves this small i'v ever had anything to do with were Esbits. They stink, poison your food and your tent, soot up pans and produce about as much heat as a match.

This however, is about the size of an esbit, but is actually a real pressureburner. It has windproofing, and burns blue. It also doesn't soot up pans, and has the power of a decent roarer.

And best of all...It fits in my fishing suite pocket.

Georgi

did you...

Silly thought, but have you tried putting the thing upside down to soak the wick a bit more in fuel?

I just tested it. It seems to work ok now...

Never a doubt

Adi,
I always knew it would be okay! It just needed a little UK petrol to kick it back to life

carb cleaner

April 12 2004, 7:11 PM

Yeh, it's probably just getting used to uk petrol...It probably tastes different to the US stuff.

I'll go get some carb cleaner soon. The stuff youre talking about is the carb cleaning fuel additive, right?

Yes

Adi,
The carb cleaner that you buy at the auto part store is what I use. I cleaned it out with a cap full or so before I mailed it out. It was probably dry from all the time it was sitting. It just took a bit to get the fuel system primed and ready. But, carb cleaner is always good to have on hand for future use. And for Pete's sake get the match and your hand away from the coil after you have lit the stove
