| Don't go out without your 45, son! (Or your 106) | April 30 2004, 5:36 PM |
I have three of these: two 106s and a 105 (the silent). This type is not always out there on eBay, but nor are they rare, and in the fullness of time many come and go. And the 1 3/4 pint stoves always seem to go these days at pretty reasonable prices.
We all have our favorite types, and I have a particular liking for the 1 3/4 pint collapsibles, probably because of my boyhood Optimus 45, and because these are the classic camping, as distinct from hiking, stoves. These along with the 210/00 types are my favorites. I like the 96s, but in a sense they are almost toys rather than camping/hiking stoves, though that is putting it a little strongly, I'll admit.
By and large, apart from three nice display pieces, I am unmoved by the fixed-leg domestics, and haven't bought any since the first few months of collecting. But of course to many, including the prince of the aficianados, Peter Watchorn, they are the top items. |

| about that 106... | April 30 2004, 10:59 PM |
My friend is helping w/ the use of his credit card, but, I'm the one that's trying to by this very stove via Ebay.
does this model come w/ the brass "grill" plate, or is that a different model? Also, any components w/ it? Spanner x tra nipples etc. don't matter if not, just curious.
And yes, my friends handle realy is Ottar the Viking. |

I assume the seller is showing everything he's got on offer. I've seldom gotten any spares with any stoves I've bought.
The 106 will take any standard 1 3/4 pint stove pan ring. I use these rings generally in indoors use for pot stability, but have regularly used them without, especially camping.
Good luck on the auction; this looks to be a nice one. |

Thanx for the intel. I realized after posting that the stove in Q. is a 106L which doesn't come w/ said plate, BUT, DOES come w/ the wind screen for the spirit cup.
All the same, it's good to know how to "improove" on the whole.

| Pot Stand Rings | May 1 2004, 12:23 PM |
Ed I believe it is not a good practice to use these stoves with out a pot ring Appaert from stubillity.
I believe this is the cause of the top of the legs to burn though, over a long period of time.
If you watch what happens, the top of the legs will get red hot with out the pot ring. With the ring I have not seen these get red.
When the pot ring is fitted this consentrates the flame in the center and upwards, then out. At this stage it is above the top of the legs.
With out the ring the flame spreads out quicker and below the top of the legs.
No I have not proven this to shorten the life of the legs. Most stoves I have got with the pot ring has realy good legs. Where as 75% of stoves I get with out the ring has bad legs.

If you can' tell, I'm new to these kind of stoves. I'm used to my Optimus petrols( 111B, 8R and svea 123s) so far as I can tell, the Svea 106L DOES have the wind screen for the spirit cup, but, in all the photos I've seen, no top plate.

| why Arabic? | May 2 2004, 2:28 AM |
I was wondering why many of the primus type stoves have Arabic writing on them? Were they sold there? |

| here's one idea... | May 2 2004, 6:03 PM |
Most of these stoves found their strongest popularity in the arrab world.
In Europe, The U.K. and esspecialy in the States, petrol and Coleman fuel have generaly been preferred.
I have a Meva No.1 from Czechoslovakia that has the arrabic on it as well.
Marketing in short I'ld guess.

| 15 min. & no boil... | May 4 2004, 8:16 PM |
I have a Meva No.1 w/ a silent burner;
one qt. of water in a copper kettle, 15 min.s w/ no boil.
no fuel leakage in the riser, no loss of pressure via the release valve, and an as of yet unidentified 1/8" X 2" brass tube inbetween the tank & riser w/ some kind of cotton packing. Maybe old cup?
Any ideas?

| low output w/ silent? | May 4 2004, 8:21 PM |
do you have any problems w/ low output on your silent stove?
I'm having no end of troubles w/ my Meva No.1.
Other possibilities?
