What else can be said other than that the No.40 was a particularly neat if rather short-lived little addition to the WW1 era Svea stable?
igh371, Congrats on yet another century-old score! It's a very nice addition thx for sharing and your No.40 "for TURISTER, MILITARER, BOY SCOUTS" is "particularly neat" for sure! There ARE indeed SEVERAL No.40 particulars / comparisons found in 1915 catalog https://classiccampstoves.com/threads/213 Doug was quick to notice your No.40, he had posted a similar No.8 (undated?), his might also be represented in the 1915 catalog? Just a couple particulars I note: +1 w/Duane re NRV, and very similar model SVEAs of the same year have different external NRVs. Is it just the NRV lid that is different, i wonder. Your 1 pint No.40 (w/hex riser) has the durable tin option... a No.44. Doug shows his 1 1/4 pint No.8 (w/wing riser & cap) in a box (good one!) BUT peculiar imo that SVEA doesn't offer tin for same year No.8? The catalog is in Swedish but hopefully my comments are valid. thx omc
Re the NRV - the internal components of this are all the same as on all of the other external-NRV Sveas ( Link ). It is only the external cover that is different. It is more compact due to using a male thread rather than the female thread found in the domed outer covers used on the other Svea external-NRVs. Compact size is the advantage, greater difficulty in releasing if it becomes stuck, due to the lack of a spanner hex, is the disadvantage!
That stove has everything i love! script style, nrv, winged fuel cap, dimpled spirit cup and big feet.
It's been a long time since a stove that nice has graced the gallery pages. The graphics are bold, the build is quality, and it's survived so well for so long. Thanks for sharing. You made my day.
The SVEA 8 that I posted had been over soldered and had to be polished to even out surfice finish. Ian's 40 looks so nice because the dark oxidation highlighting the engraving. In my mind this adds value to a stove that is often lost when the eBay seller or the buyer puts the shine on .
