I needed to remove the fuel tank so had to drain the fuel from my little Honda 90. So I grabbed a couple of 1l Sigg/Primus bottles and filled them up from the fuel pipe. Used one of my Trangia safety valves to pour the fuel back in the tank. The first time I tried it was fine, but I wanted to change the fuel line on my bike so when I did the same drain and refill using the Trangia tap very little fuel flowed out the bottle. Whats the best material for petrol/white gas/naptha/ethanol resistance? Is there a o-ring that'll resist all fuels? I guess Trangia use one that is meths/ethanol resistant but not petrol/naptha resistant. I'm sure the same thing happened when I used another Trangia valve to transfer panel wipe.
So far I have experienced no problem using my Trangia safety valve with panel wipe. The only proper seals to use are made of Viton if you ask me, they'll withstand all fuels. Best regards, Wim
In the UK I'd go for Viton for multifuel. If it was just ethanol I'd go for nitrile which is a touch better for alcohol. On paper Nitrile should be good for all but in the UK, commercial grade nitrile only contains 10% nitrile & if used in a situation where it's clamped under pressure will blow out in a relatively short while with petrol & kero. High grade nitrile contains up to 40% nitrile but is a specialist material & not what you see for sale online. US commercial grade nitrile may be better as several of our US members seem to have success with nitrile sourced in their domestic market.
My Trangia fuel bottle, with what I presume is the Trangia safety valve being referred to, states clearly it's good for petrol as well as other fuels I use and I'm very happy with it. I store Shellite.
