Title for Banned members

Past 'alleged' transgressions, as an attorney would say.

 

I would say no.
On many sites "Inactive" means just that, then when the member logs in/uses the system/page it changes to "Active". Far too confusing.

Banned is best IMHO. I am a member of many technical sites but this is the only one that seems to have a problem with the phrase......

I am fed up with all this nonsense, it is going round in bloody circles. Forum rules are forum rules, live with it I'd say.

This is the last time I shall post on the topic.

I don't believe "active" and "inactive" are used on this forum. This forum uses "Logged in" and "Logged out" and shows those members currently online. I'm not saying there are no confused people posting here but I doubt this would be the cause of their confusion.

'Inactive' is no good, assumes inactivity rather than being, well, banned. There are worse words like: expunged, kicked out, escorted out, banished, outlawed, expelled, evicted, ousted, ejected, etc.

I think we're trying to be too nice or too politically correct about this. 'Banned' fits. It also lets current and potential members know that there is an expected behaviour. What's been said and decided should stand. Rather than a small title exciting people, it's the new threads on the same topic that is causing people to be affected and doesn't appear to be working.

Last post on this type of thread (at least for a long while) and back to stoving. Too much time wasted already.

Let's have some fun with our stoves guys. If you need special help not available at CCS, do it on your own and privately.

I would like the decision made and just let this whole matter go away, quietly.
I do not care what you call it by the way.

 

If the label were a little less confrontational (banned) and a little more diplomatic (inactive) I think the matter would go away quietly to everyone's benefit.

Maybe so. But if "Banned" were changed to "Inactive" there'd be no controversy at all. I see no harm in trying it. Do you?

Oh, no! There would still be a controversy.
I would question the use of such a phony word instead of using the correct one, and that's just the same kind of controversy you have forced upon us all, so obviously no difference from that aspect.

Ross asked for alternative suggestions. I'm providing them. The matter will be closed when he says it is. Christer says there will still be controversy if "banned" is changed to "inactive." I say let's try it and see.

'Inactive' has a completely different meaning to 'banned', but I don't suppose 'barred' as they would say in some pubs around here would be seen as any less quarrelsome. Maybe there could be something to be said for 'deactivated'.

 

'Deactivated' sounds like something neutral from the Terminator films.
The banned members did totally disgraceful things.
Banned they were, banned they deserved and banned should be there for all to see.
Just my two penneth worth.

 

'Deactivated' is better than 'banned' but it's still something someone does to another. People will still wonder why? 'Inactive' is neutral and far less likely to cause controversy IMO.

This is getting daft. I have so far seen no suggestions that meets the requirements of clarity. I will take further suggestions only by private conversation & Banned will remain in place until I agree to a suitable replacement. I've trawled the thesaurus with no success.
