I go to a Tag Sale today in Ohio. The Aladdin I bought today was labeled $8. I doesn't have a scratch on it and the sticker is perfect. Being as it was Saturday everything was half off so $4. Included in the sale was a Massillon Aluminum Set Dated 1944. Still has a sticker also So both the stove and cook set came together for $4. I already own an unused Coleman 530 A46. i won it in a card game. So I have learned a little about WWII Stoves. It is also unfired and in new condition.
Bugger, you all but stole those! The M1942 and a cookset is rather coveted, and at that price, you couldn't go wrong. The Coleman 530 is nice, but it was never issued to the troops in any way, lots of people try to bulls**t buyers that it was, never happened. By any measure, ya done good! Murph
KZ900 WELCOME ! a KZ900 that brings back memories, all those old school KZs year after year faster bigger faster . Oh yeah this is a sto9ve site. +1 with Murph, what an awesome deal! steal ! Might I ask a favor, can you add a couple more pics, closer pics of the 2 labels, please, thank you. congrats omc tag @MrAlexxx
Very nice score. Beats my $9.99 Goodwill find of a Coleman 425F complete with 32-year-old pancake batter splatters. It works, without any fettling, but RH burner is weak -- which I hear is normal. I did buy one of those GI Mountain Cooksets, used, from Coleman's Surplus [no relation to the stove Co.] for $20. Mine's marked: "U.S. SMP". Doubt if it's WWII. Mid Cold War is my guess. Last users didn't rinse out what looks like instant coffee from the smaller pot. Some dings, but ultimately servicable. One could hide a Svea 123, some pancake mix, small groups of teabags and a can of Spam inside, and no one would be the wiser. It now lives in a cool Ice Blue stuff sack.
That is so awesome I’m sitting here calling you names. Beats my dirty used one for about $3.nn. Congratulations on the score- seriously happy for you, especially with the cook set. It’s such a great stove.
KZ900, I do not mean to be snarky. Re your " already own an unused Coleman 530 A46. i won it in a card game. So I have learned a little about WWII Stoves." Again I do not want to come off snarky, the 530 is not a "WW2 stove" it is later civilian version of same. What I do want to do is suggest re WW2 US Army pocket stoves A. the story of how Coleman stepped up to the need for a pocket stove during WW2, in 1942 Coleman's model 520 was born aka US Army issue No. M1941. [[Some of the most rare 1942 520 versions are aka an Ernie Pyle stove.]] The story of Coleman answering the call, big time, very quickly and with such excellent results (coming thru in the clutch). That story that piece of history and US manufacturing stepping up is a main reason I was hooked in to collecting old camp stoves. B. You have lucked into an another impressive piece of WW2 history in that your Aladdin M1942 MOD stove and your mess kit were also answering a need for troops in WW2, designed w/mountain troops in-mind and again excellent results. Yours are quite literally shining examples, sorry to oversell it but imo a museum might have interest to put such a pair on display. Please take good care. I'm forever impressed with BOTH stories and the historical relevance. There is a lot there. thx omc
After rereading my post it definitely implies that I was saying it was from the war. I knew it was not but it came off that way. Here are some pictures of the stickers as per request. I store them in this old WWII Field Safe. I bought it for $15 dollars a few years ago at an Estate Sale.
Thank you very much KZ. WW2 safe for WW2 stuff, but of course . You have some very cool stuff there. thx again omc
Well seeing as it's unfired would you guys fire it up or not? Or would you find another one and leave it alone?
This is an ongoing philosophical issue. With one that old, and given the military provenance, I would not, myself. I have a lot of stoves; I'm looking at a non-Swedish keroburner to bring on a hike this weekend. The one I reached for is unused, with labels and ribbons intact; something I'd forgotten. I put it back. I have a lot of kids and grandkids. That one will make a real nice gift to one of them someday, I thought.....
That will be someone else's choice. I did not fire it up. I have left that decision any future owner.
I have left notes on all the stuff for my children and wife so they know what to do with all my weird stuff. Now that i am nearing 60 I have started to sell some of it. Plus I think the economy is good right now for selling.
Wait till next week, next month, next year. A recent sale of an Optimus Svea 123 was the same as a much older Sievert Svea 123 just a few years ago. Crazy prices if you compare it to the recent past.
